Toronto stock market shows moderate gain, loonie down at mid-morning – Financial Post

TORONTO — The Toronto stock market’s main stock index is up this morning in a broad advance across most of its sectors.

The Toronto Stock Exchange’s S&P/TSX composite index was up 43.66 points to 15,764.66, after 90 minutes of trading.

In New York, the Dow Jones industrial average was up 40.29 points to 22,701.93. The S&P 500 index was up 6.40 points to 2,544.14 and the Nasdaq composite index was up 17.87 points to 6,552.50.

The Canadian dollar was trading at 79.80 cents US, down from Wednesday’s average price of 80.13 cents US.

The November crude contract was up 89 cents to US$50.87 per barrel and the November natural gas contract was up two cents at US$2.96 per mmBTU.

The December gold contract was down 20 cents to US$1,276.60 an ounce and the December copper contract was up eight cents to US$3.04 a pound.
