BRAZIL: Lula Has The Largest Voter Support For The 2018 Election, Says Poll – Markets Insider

(RTTNews) – Former Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, from the Workers Party, would have the largest voter support in the 2018 presidential election, according to a poll from the Datafolha research institute.

The former center-left President leads the polls with 34% of the votes for 2018, followed by the right-wing representative Jair Bolsonaro (17%) and Marina Silva (9%). The São Paulo state governor Geraldo Alckmin is tied with Ciro Gomes, both with 6%.

In an alternative scenario, in which the retired Supreme Court justice Joaquim Barbosa replaces Marina Silva as a presidential candidate, Lula has a 37% support, followed by Bolsonaro (18%), Alckmin (8%), Gomes (7%), and Barbosa (6%).

A third scenario, in which the São Paulo city’s mayor João Doria replaces Alckmin, Doria has 5%. The Finance Minister Henrique Meirelles appears in one of the simulations with only 1% of the votes, tied with the president of the National Economic and Social Development Bank (BNDES), Paulo Rabello de Castro (PSC).
